Nachruf auf Johnny, Oktober 2013

• Johnny had to be put down after a very bad colic last week. His heart was too weak to operate. He was 28 years old. He died with his head on Eva’s heart – which is also the place he lived!
• He was a part of our extended family of kids and friends and dogs and horses for almost as long as I can remember and will be very sorely missed by all, most of course by Eva, with whom he went through thick and thin, good times and bad times, for over 25 years!
• Eva discovered him on a trip to Ireland and bought him from a tinker, whose cart he was pulling as a three year old. After feeding him up and getting him ready for transport, he was moved to Germany.

• Johnny mußte letzte Woche nach einer schlimmen Kolik eingeschläfert werden. Sein Herz war schon zu schwach zum operieren. Er war 28. Er hatte seinen Kopf an Evas Herz, als er gespritzt wurde – und dort hat er auch gelebt!
• Er war ein Teil unserer weiteren Familie mit Kindern, Freunden, Hunden und Pferden solange ich mich erinnern kann, und wird sehr vermißt werden, vor allem natürlich von Eva, mit der er durch dick und dünn gegangen ist, durch gute wie durch schlechte Zeiten – über 25 Jahre lang!
• Eva entdeckte ihn auf einer Reise in Irland und kaufte ihn einem Tinker ab, dessen Wagen er als Dreijähriger zog. Nachdem er aufgepäppelt und transportfähig war, zog er nach Deutschland um.

• Not long after Eva arranged a marriage for him – Maya arrived and it was love at first sight! By land and by water they were next to each other whenever they could. Wherever Eva resided, she arranged for the best herd life for all her horses. Johnny had two mares, Maya and Gloria, and thought that Gloria’s foal Galathee was his daughter. Life with three females was not always easy – but it was never boring!

• Nicht viel später arrangierte Eva eine Ehe für ihn – Maya kam und es war Liebe auf den ersten Blick! Zu Wasser und zu Lande waren sie beieinander wo immer sie konnten. Wo Eva auch gerade wohnte, machte sie es immer für ihre Pferde möglich ein schönes Herdenleben zu führen. Johnny hatte zwei Frauen, Maya und Gloria, und dachte, daß Glorias Fohlen Galathee seine Tochter sei. Ein Leben mit drei Weibsen war nicht immer einfach – aber jedenfalls nie langweilig!

• Johnny “brought up” all of our kids – they all learned from him what loving, and interacting with, a horse means. In our films “Playing with Horses” you can see how he kindly follows the directions from a very little Amelie to a point – playing along with whatever is proposed!

•  Johnny hat all unsere Kinder “erzogen” – sie haben alle von ihm gelernt, was es heißt mit einem Pferd zu leben und es zu lieben. In unseren Filmen “Playing with Horses” kann man sehen, wie lieb er auf die Kommandos einer sehr kleinen Amelie hört – er macht brav, was immer sie vorschlägt!

• Johnny did everything for his Eva – as a tinker’s horse he was very especially socialised to be with a human! Of course he was totally at home in front of a cart and loved it best to be on the road with his family.
• Whenever we were filming or performing, he always had his eyes on Eva, even when he was working with somebody else. He even did all circus exercises in front of a special carriage (unfortunately I do not have good pictures of that), and even consented to vaulting, when we made the films “Equestrian Vaulting”, although he never was schooled for this.

• Johnny hat für seine Eva alles getan – als Tinker war er besonders auf seinen Menschen sozialisiert! Natürlich war er vor dem Wagen ganz zu Hause und liebte es, mit seiner Familie unterwegs zu sein.
• Immer, wenn wir filmten oder Vorführungen machten, hatte er seine Augen auf seiner Eva, auch wenn er mit jemand anderem arbeitete. Er konnte alle Zirkusübungen vor der Kutsche (leider habe ich davon keine guten Bilder) und hat sogar brav bei der Voltige mitgemacht, als wir “Breitensport Voltige” filmten, obwohl er dafür nie ausgebildet wurde.

• Johnny performed in innumerable shows, on TV, in Gala performances and for films. Whether eating Spaghetti in front of the wagon ( this appealed to his tinker’s heart! He ate whatever humans ate…) or appearing on the big stage – he was in his element! In the picture on the right he is piaffing on a table top during the opera “Carmen” in the summer performance of St. Margarethen’s (Austria)  in 2005. For 3 months he reliably pulled off his number, consisting of “apport”, Spanish Step, curtsey and piaffe, as well as lying down on stage, every single night!

• Johnny hat in zahllosen Vorführungen mitgemacht, in TV Auftritten, Gala Shows und Filmen. Ob er nun vor dem Zigeunerwagen Spaghetti aß (als Tinker fraß er alles was seine Menschen mochten!) oder ob er auf der großen Bühne war – er war in seinem Element! Im Bild rechts piaffiert er während der Freilicht  Oper “Carmen” in St. Margarethen (Österreich) 2005 auf dem Tisch. Drei Monate lang zog er verläßlich jeden Abend seine Show, die aus “Apport”, spanischem Schritt, Kompliment und Piaffe auf dem Tisch, sowie Abliegen auf der Bühne, bestand, ab!

• We all feel with Eva. Johnny not only had a formative influence on her life, but indeed gave it a completely new turn. For him Eva initiated her  method of equestrian circus schooling, without him we would have neither her clinics, nor books or films.
• It was impossible not to like Johnny. He was full of fun, cheeky, loyal and reliable. I think he was the best and most important friend Eva ever had. Johnny will never be forgotten!

• Unser aller Beileid geht an Eva. Johnny hat ihr Leben nicht nur geprägt, sondern ihm eine ganz andere Richtung gegeben. Für Johnny hat Eva ihre Zirkusausbildung ins Leben gerufen, ohne ihn gäbe es weder ihre Kurse, noch Bücher, oder Filme.
• Es war unmöglich Johnny nicht zu mögen. Er war amüsant, auch frech, loyal und verläßlich. Ich denke, er war der beste und wichtigste Freund, den Eva je hatte. Johnny wird nie vergessen sein!
