Longierspaß – Teil 04

• In the last game we introduced our horses to turns and rope aids in a playful manner. These games also taught us to become more adept at handling the tools of our aids – mainly the whip, rope and our body language.

• In the game proposed today we will complicate matters a little, because we will take our communication via body language out of the equation – rather, we will confuse the horse a little! So now we rely on the fact that he will listen to our voice commands so well that he understands his job, without taking the clue from our movement. Sounds easy? Try it!

• We normally exercise our horse on the lunge line – we stand in the centre, the horse has to run. Now we reverse the allocation of duties!

• Beim letzten Spiel haben wir unser Pferd auf spielerische Weise mit Drehungen und Seilhilfen bekannt gemacht. Diese Spiele haben uns selbst geschickter in der Handhabung unserer Hilfswerkzeuge gemacht – hauptsächlich mit Gerte, Seil und Körpersprache.

• Im heute vorgeschlagenen Spiel komplizieren wir die Sache etwas, denn wir machen nun die Rechnung ohne das Mittel unserer Körpersprache – im Gegenteil werden wir unser Pferd damit ein bißchen verwirren! Daher müssen wir uns jetzt darauf verlassen, daß es schon so gut auf unsere Stimmhilfen hört, daß es seine Aufgabe versteht, ohne Rückschlüsse aus unserer eignen Bewegung zu ziehen. Nicht schwer? Ausprobieren!

• Normalerweise machen wir unserem Pferd an der Longe Bewegung – wir stehen in der Mitte und das Pferd muß laufen. Jetzt wollen wir diese Arbeitsaufteilung mal umkehren!

• The horse’s duty is to stay put in the middle and turn with the running playmate in such a way that he can keep a sharp eye on her. The runner must make sure that the rope remains lose at all times, as otherwise she would surely pull the horse off his centre.

• Die Aufgabe des Pferdes ist es nun in der Mitte zu bleiben und sich so mit seiner laufenden Spielkameradin zu drehen, daß es ein scharfes Auge auf sie halten kann. Die rennende Person wiederum muß sicher stellen, daß das Seil immer lose bleibt, da sie sonst sicherlich das Pferd aus dem Zentrum ziehen würde.

• In the picture above we see that though Janine runs with admirable abandon and has the rope lose, the horse has not understood to stay put yet – he walks in a small circle to be able to keep his eyes and ears on her.

• Im obigen Bild sehen wir, daß Janine zwar mit bewundernswürdiger Hingabe rennt und das Seil lose bleibt, das Pferd aber noch nicht verstanden hat an seinem Platz zu bleiben – es läuft in kleinen Kreisen, um sie mit Augen und Ohren verfolgen zu können.

• King is learning – because we shout “turn! turn!” as Janine runs, and “stay!” when he wants to walk off, and these are a commands he knows well! But the runner clearly gets ahead of her horse – while we try to teach him to turn on the spot and at such a speed so that she remains placed in line with his body – in front of his nose.

• King lernt schon – da wir dauernd „turn! turn!“ rufen, während Janine herumflitzt, und „stay!“, wenn er weglaufen will, und das sind Kommandos, die er gut kennt! Aber die Läuferin ist ihrem Partner hier zu weit voraus – während wir ja versuchen, dem Pferd zu erklären, daß es sich so schnell auf der Stelle drehen soll, daß beide auf einer Linie bleiben, welche die Verlängerung seiner Achse und vor seiner Nase ist.

• Better! King still has “questioning” ears and he still takes relatively large steps with his forehand. But his hind crosses nicely and the turn gets ever tighter.

• Besser! King zeigt noch stark „fragende“ Ohren und seine Vorhand nimmt noch große Schritte. Aber die Hinterhand kreuzt sauber und die Kreise werden zunehmend enger.

• Here you see it on film! In the first half of the clip you can see how Czar is trying to understand the concept of the game – and is still quite puzzled!
• But in the second half he’s got it! He turns nicely on the spot – and I think he definitively enjoys the fact that SHE is the one, who must do all the running!

• Hier sehen Sie e sim Film! In der ersten Hälfte des Clips sieht man, wie Czar versucht das Spiel zu verstehen – und noch ziemlich verwirrt ist!
• Aber in der zweiten Hälfte hat er es kapiert! Er dreht sich sauber auf der Stelle – und ich denke, daß ihm die Tatsache, daß SIE rennen muß, viel Spaß macht!
